Metalloinvest supplies all major markets, with priority markets including Russia, Europe, and countries in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. The company’s customers are leading steelmaking plants around the world that procure iron ore raw materials, pig iron and hot briquetted iron (HBI). Metalloinvest steel is used to make pipes, wagons, railways and vehicles and to build bridges, buildings, stadiums and ships.
Metalloinvest works closely with car manufacturers to develop new steel grades. By constantly improving the chemical composition and technical characteristics of the metal and applying the latest technologies, Metalloinvest plants produce steel products which meet the highest car manufacturing standards and supply rolled steel to leading car and truck manufacturers.
Metalloinvest’s cooperation with the biggest car manufacturers is characterised by confidence in the company’s products spanning many years, confirming the high quality products which ultimately determines the safety and service life of vehicles.
In 2018, Metalloinvest’s OEMK was named among the best Russian suppliers to one of the largest global car manufacturers, Groupe PSA (whose brands include Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, DS and others). OEMK was named Best Plant as a supplier of high-quality steel rods to Groupe PSA enterprises.
The honorary award was presented to OEMK by Michelle Wen, Executive Vice President, Global Purchasing and Supplier Quality for Groupe PSA, and Alexander Smolyankin, Head of Purchasing Department, PCMA Rus, at the 2018 Supplier Awards.
The use of Metalloinvest’s special quality steel in car production helps to:
reduce the overall weight of the vehicle and consequently fuel and lubricant consumption;
extend the vehicle’s service life. Car parts and components made from the company’s brand steels are more resistant to mechanical wear and tear;
contribute to environmental protection. High quality steel is smelted using direct reduction technology, which has minimal impact on the environment, and the increased durability of the equipment reduces the need for unscheduled repairs and additional steel production expenditure.
In terms of SBQ quality, Metalloinvest is number one in Russia today. We now produce over a million tonnes of SBQ a year, of which one third goes for export. OEMK (part of Metalloinvest) was named among this year’s best Russian suppliers by one of the largest global car manufacturers, Groupe PSA
Groupe PSA works together with more than 8,000 suppliers and encourages the purchase of local materials and components at all manufacturing facilities. OEMK has provided high-quality rolled steel products (Special Bar Quality, SBQ) to the enterprises of the French car manufacturing giant and its sub-suppliers since 2003. The steel bars supplied to Groupe PSA by OEMK are used in the production of the most critical car components and units – crankshafts, connecting rods, other engine components and gear and suspension systems.
Metal structural units used in bridge-building are subject to significant dynamic loads, atmospheric impact, temperature variations, corrosion and other factors every day. Under such conditions, the correct selection of physical properties and chemical composition of the metals used is very important. Metalloinvest steel undergoes multiple stages of testing and greatly exceeds the global standards for bridge steel.
The company’s heavy steel plate is used to make steel structural units for railway and road bridges and for pedestrian overpasses. Thanks to its high quality, Metalloinvest products are ideal for building structures used under different climatic and geographical conditions, including in the Far North and with seismicity of up to magnitude 9.
For the majority of load-bearing reinforced concrete structures, a hot-rolled and thermo-mechanically treated reinforcement bar is used, ensuring structural rigidity. The superstructure spans are manufactured from heavy plate structural alloy steel, whereas rods are used for the steel cords and chains of cable-stays.
Since it was established, Metalloinvest has supplied high quality steel products for the construction of over a hundred bridges and viaducts all over the country. Many significant constructions in Russia were built using steel produced at Ural Steel, confirming the high quality of its products and reliability of supplies. Ural Steel’s rolled steel has been used to build the bridge to Russkiy Island, the weather resistant covering over the Vnukovo-1 airport, several Olympic facilities as well as the road network infrastructure in Sochi and Krasnoy Polyany, the Central Ring Road in Moscow, the Zapadniy Skorostnoy Diametr road in Saint Petersburg and World Cup 2018 stadiums in Samara, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Ekaterinburg, Nizhniy Novgorod and Kaliningrad. Ural Steel products were also used on bridges over the Amur, Volga, Oka, Ob, Nadim, Tura, Tobol, Kama, Samarka, Irtysh and Dyoma rivers among others. Transport interchanges built using Ural Steel products include the Moscow Ring Road, The North-West, North-East and South-East corridors in Moscow, and the Podolsk, Kaluga, Losevo, and Pavlovsk interchanges in Tyumen. The Baikal-Amur Mainline, Transsibierian and Krasnodar railway bridges and several other constructions were also made using Ural Steel products.

14,925 tonnes of bridge steel and other Metalloinvest steel products were supplied for construction of the bridge to Russkiy Island, one of the biggest cable bridges in the world. It is over 3 kilometres long, with pylons reaching up to 324 metres, to which cables up to 580 metres in length are attached
The quality of the steel used in ship building is of paramount importance. After all, it is constantly affected by seawater and wide temperature variations, and the structural sections of vessels experience constant dynamic loads. LOTOS Ship Building Plant is a unique enterprise in the industry, built in the late 1980s. Metalloinvest products are used here to build inland navigation vessels and sets of block-modules for the superstructures of stationary rigs designed for exploring and extracting oil and gas on the continental shelves of seas and oceans
Vyborg Shipyard is one of the largest ship building enterprises in north-west Russia. Over the last 70 years, over 210 civil vessels have been built there: ice-class vessels, supply ships, ice-breakers, fishing trawlers and drilling rigs for developing marine shelf deposits. The enterprise’s specialists hold certificates from the leading global classification companies: Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, Germanischer Lloyd, Bureau Veritas, RINA, and the Russian Sea Vessel Register
More than 10,000 tonnes of ship building steel have been supplied by Metalloinvest to the Vyborg Shipyard for building two multipurpose diesel-electric ice-breakers of the Finnish Aker 130A design for the Arctic terminal at the Novoportov oil and gas field on the Yamal Peninsula. The two ships, with a capacity of 22 MWt each, are capable of breaking through ice up to two metres thick and operating continuously at temperatures down to -50 С°

The company’s products undergo many stages of checks for compliance with the industry’s most stringent requirements and have been awarded certificates of quality, including the TUV SUD Industrie Service GmbH certificate of conformity for plant production control over hot-rolled items made of constructional steel.

The majority of the World Cup 2018 sports facilities were built using Metalloinvest steel. For the metal structures of the stadiums in Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Rostov on Don, the company supplied almost 24 thousand tonnes of rolled steel. “Ekaterinburg Arena” accounted for most of this (14 thousand tonnes of rolled steel)
For construction of the “Otkritie Arena” (Moscow), “Gazprom Arena” (St Petersburg) and Sochi’s “Fisht” stadiums, Metalloinvest also supplied its high-quality steel
Winter Olympics 2014 also required the company’s participation. The Bolshoy Ice Dome, curling arena, the “Ice Cube”, the “Olympic Park” railway station, the main media centre, the bobsleigh track, and the “Adler” railway station were all made of steel produced by Metalloinvest enterprises
